In the hills of West Eugene, we helped a family replace a treacherous set of stairs that connected the driveway to the front door of their two-story split-level home. In place of the steep spiraling stone staircase, the homeowners wanted new, safer stairs with an attractive modern aesthetic. To achieve their goals, my team and I built a set of stairs on a concrete foundation complete with a retaining wall that double back once on the way from the driveway to the landing at the front door. Using our expertise as deck builders, we created an ample landing where the two staircases meet, and now the family has room to comfortably maneuver the stairs together.

The stairs are wider and shorter than the previous set, and the new dimensions are effective safety improvements. The family now has more space to land on each step and can use less effort to reach each of them. The homeowners are extremely happy with their choice to work with NowHaus as their builder and the safety improvements our expert deck construction and retaining wall construction provided them. They’re also pleased with the modern aesthetic we brought to their project.

My team and I took extra care in the beginning stages of this project while we removed the original staircase. It was attached to the foundation of the home, which made removal a thoughtful and delicate endeavor, because a wrong move could damage the concrete foundation. Our team of experienced patio builders and retaining wall builders expertly handled the challenge and safely removed the stairs before moving on to prepare the site for the new set.
